Hervey Bay Whale Watching Each year from July to November visitors from all over the world travel to view the whales in the Hervey Bay Marine Park. Hervey Bays calm waters provide shelter for Humpback whales and their calves as the frolic in the Bay on their migration to Antarctica after giving birth in the waters of northern Queensland. Humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales and are renowned for their singing. They are the fifth largest of all whales, growing up to 15m and weighing up to 40 tonnes. Whale watchers are regularly treated to magnificent displays of breaching, tail flapping and pectoral slapping. Other marine life such as dolphins, turtles and dugongs are also sighted regularly. Each year the whales are increasing in number and are becoming more curious and comfortable with the vessels and often come so close you can almost reach out an touch them. Hervey Bay operators offer whale watching tours with vessels departing the Urangan Boat Harbour daily. The fleet offers half and full day tours on a variety of vessels, each hosted by a professional and experienced crew who provide a knowledgeable commentary. |
